A passion for shiny metal surfaces and plastics united professionals from different fields

Gloss Systems Oy is a relatively new player in the Finnish plastics industry, but it has solid expertise and professionalism behind it, as Tapani Smått, who has worked practically his entire career in plastics and the plastics industry, is responsible for the company’s technology and competence development.

Gloss Systems is part of the Gloss Group, which also includes Polishine Oy from Pietarsaari, which is the original reason why the passionate plastics man Smått has been drawn to the company. Smått, who subcontracted maintenance and cleaning of dies for its customers, was looking for a partner who could provide a sufficiently high-quality cleaning result, as only a mirror surface was good enough. After a long search, Smått’s paths crossed with Polishine’s Robert and Richard Holm.

Polishine, who passionately worked on the surface treatment of challenging objects and the polishing of metals in a variety of fields, began to do more and more polishing of blown film industry, and the idea that specializing in this special area could open up a completely new market to conquer began to mature in the minds of the trio. The idea was refined for a few years, and when the business plan also convinced the financiers, it was time to put the big gear in gear. Gloss Systems Oy was registered in 2024, but as can be seen, the history begins much earlier. In fact, Smått independently dismantled, cleaned and assembled his first eight-layer blown film die already back in 1992!

Throughout the design process of the new company, it has been clear that the cleaning process for heavy, large and demanding blown film dies needs to be developed both in terms of quality and safety. The aim is to minimize manual work and automate the handling and movement of parts.

In total, Gloss Systems has invested approximately two million in technology and conditions. Polishine found suitable premises in neighboring Pietarsaari, which were renovated to the purpose during the winter 2024. Everything should be ready by summer 2025, after which the company will have a completely unique concept ready, with an exceptionally large capacity and for this reason the company is able to offer exceptionally fast delivery times to its customers.
